Mitsui Chemicals starts its third 500,000-ton / year PTA production line in Thailand
November 14th news: Mitsui Chemicals has started its third purified terephthalic acid (PTA) production line in Thailand, which has a capacity of 500,000 tons per year and is located in its Thai subsidiary PTA. Said in a statement. The production line was completed in mid-August and has been in trial operation since early September. After the new production line is put into operation, PTA's PTA production capacity will rise to 1.4 million tons per year, thus becoming the largest PTA plant in Southeast Asia.
Mitsui Chemicals is building this production line to meet strong demand for PTA, a raw material for the production of polyester fibers, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles and other products. Asian PTA demand is expected to grow by 7% annually. Mitsui has production facilities in Japan, Thailand and Indonesia and plans to expand its PTA business in Asia.
PTA is 49% owned by Mitsui Chemicals, 49% by Thai Cementhai Chemical, and 2% by Thai joint venture Siam Mitsui Holdings.
